SSE-4 Pty Ltd & Aquila Racing Cars presented the XP-CR1 at AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL held at the Birmingham NEC on the 8-11 January 2015.
Aquila Racing Cars and RSRSpa are collaborating in a bid to help me develop a one-off Limited Edition of their CR1 Sport GT Platform and we are dubbing it the Aquila XP-CR1. The CR1 has seen notoriety with many younger fans due to its inclusion in the R3E, RFactor and SinBin Racing Simulators and in various specifications running in events ranging from the Dutch Super Car Challenge to Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. The standard Aquila CR1 Platform offers a range of engine specifications from BMW V8 units with around 300-450HP to over 700HP using specially prepared LS Chevrolet V8’s.
This car, however, is designated ‘XP’ due to the fact that it diverges from the standard Aquila CR1 lineup by virtue of the fact that it will be running an ex Indy-car IRL V8 capable of developing >700HP. This Naturally Aspirated 3.5 litre engine was one of the last to have been co-developed by Ilmore during the 2002-2003 racing season and was being run by COMPTECH in the US for the Penske team. Whilst this particular engine was a standby unit and did not therefore race that season, these engines dominated the series and all other manufactures (notable NISSAN/Infinity) until the emergence of Honda some years later. The unit has been converted to run on E85 as FIA don’t approve Methanol for circuit racing applications and is detuned slightly from its 13,000RPM limit to around 11,000RPM but will be good for ~630HP. The car weighs a little over 800kgs.
