Anchors are wonderful things. They keep boats from drifting when they need to stay put. They keep ships in the harbour stationary so they don’t slam into each other. In storms, they keep ships from being either driven out to sea – or into the rocks. The Bible even talks about anchors – and the fact that our hopes are all anchored in the promises of a God who cannot fail and cannot lie or break His word. But there are other anchors. If you put your anchor down in wrong spot, they can sink into the muck and keep you where you don’t want to be – sometimes for the rest of your life. There are anchors that keep us chained to the past; chained to old habits. Anchors that keep us fastened to things that just keep dragging us down and holding us back. You don’t want to try to move into 2015 – with an anchor stuck in 2014!
