My name is Dara Stevens-Meredith and I am approaching my final semester at Temple University where I am pursuing my masters degree. I am preparing for my thesis concert on February 20 & 21 at the Conwell Theater at 7:30pm. My thesis titled, "Concrete Rose" is a 35 minute length work that has been a culminating process in progress for the past two years and portions of the work was performed by Eleone Dance Theatre.
"Concrete Rose" is a five section work inspired by Tupac Shakur's poems, "The Rose That Grew From Concrete", and "Can You See the Pride in the Panther?". "Concrete Rose" will shed light on diverse themes individually, including "crabs in a barrel syndrome", but have a mutual theme that permeates the entire work. It features 14 dancers who explore physicality through an emotional journey of fortitude, envy, resilience, collective efforts, and determined success.
