'Anne' is a short we shot for the 48 Hour Film Project 2008 in Amsterdam. ( http://www.48hfp.com ) It's a competition where filmmakers (beginners and professionals) create a film within 48 hours.
Our genre was 'Film de Femme' which meant our film had to star a woman with a strong personality. After a lot of thinking and some help from other people we concluded a strong woman has found the right balance between her feminine and masculine sides. This is what the movie tries to encapsulate at a rather abstract level, a level we think resonates with the feminine side while the medium (film) is more of a masculine approach.
The man and woman you see are those two sides while the forest represents the woman finding this balance.
Of course we only had 48 hours (from an idea to a finished movie) and we basically started shooting with just a general idea, no script. The final story was created during montage when there was no more time to create additional shots. The opening title was actually created while driving to the drop off point, rendering it and burning the movie to a DVD just seconds before the deadline…
