For my submission for Airbnb's Sundance contest I wanted to do something unstaged, with people who are my friends, but strangers to each other. As one put it, my stranger "non" danger exercise was setting them up on "friend dates."
Two guys got to see a Moonshine distillery, meet the owner, and, of course, have a tasting. Three of my lady friends took a boxing class together. I was sure they would hate me at the end. They loved it. Whew. Glad I chose the right people for that one. Finally, two girls had a private, abstract painting tutorial that was full of giggles.
None of these people knew each other before filming. Afterward, contact info and emails were exchanged, even invitations to a house party were extended. Austin is known as a friendly town and I think it's expressed in this little diddy that took 33 hours to make, with only 2 of that being the editing process in order to make the deadline. We have not gone back and re-edited, color grading, stabilizing, nothing. So, be gentle. Or if not, we can discuss a safeword.
These are my friends, and this is my Austin. #onelessstranger
