Spring time often becomes the time for late powder skiing from the Aiguille du Midi. Showers throughout the afternoon sprinkles the summits and often puts a sticky 20-30 cm of fresh snow on the slopes - perfect for the last enthusiastic skiers left in town.
Steep powder is on the menu and runs like the Cosmique couloir, Glacier Rond, Couloir de Passerelle, Col du Plan and the North face of the Aiguille du Midi are getting skied when in condition.
Yesterday 12th of May all these routes were skied by various teams. We did the Rond and Col du Plan, and these flicks are from our runs. The Rond was in superb conditions and Col du Plan, being the more serious run of the two, in equally good conditions. Col du Plan remains a very exposed run and one should be very selective to when skiing. Other people had been down the run the last few days and during the morning when we skied the Rond, making our passage less exposed to potential avalanche slabs.
All routes goes from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi and are all very serious undertakings, where falling is not an option and where even a small slab avalanche means trouble!
All skiers on these routes are longtime return seasoners, professionals or pro-skiers, with a longtime experience on this terrain and in judging the conditions. Don't do this at home :-)
