The sun was setting and lit the side of St Helen's beautifully. Perfect conditions for a flight. From 10,000 feet, the side of the mountain can be seen with an entire flank missing. The explosion of Mt. St. Helene's sent dust and ash for 100s of miles. Today, the crater dome is building in the center. Its predicted to grow to its former height in as little as 50 years. Steam from vents in the dome can be seen today.
