How are we defined? We are not white. We are not black. We are not yellow or red. We are the generation whose parents forged barriers to break them. We are the products that defied singular notions of race.
The pause that people take while trying to define us is the pause we all must take when confronting that which they wish to define us; race. The portraits in this series come from a recorded conversation that asks University of Oregon Students, "What is race?" Their answers show the depth of this issue in America, exposing the plural identities we carry in a single society.
