The journalists on the Scarborough Evening News (North Yorkshire, UK) who are members of the National Union of Journalists held the first strike at the paper for 30 years, protesting at owners Johnston Press introducing a new production computer system called ATEX. Sub-editors were made redundant, and their work put onto reporters, the aim of the new computer system.
This was the 'straw that broke the camel's back' for staff at the paper, who had taken on a number of new duties, and technologies, and felt they were being taken for granted, and overworked.
So this is my video diary of the day, my first ever strike action.
Filmed with a Canon FS100, and edited with Sony Vegas Studio.
