The documentary was produced by West End Seniors Network (WESN) and SPARC BC in collaboration with local seniors, Gordon Neighbourhood House and the West End Seniors' Community Planning Table.
Through personal stories, West End seniors shed light on many issues facing older renters in the West End. Eric Kowalski, Executive Director of WESN calls the struggle to stay in their homes “a slow squeeze.” Among issues are rent increases, fixed incomes, and long waiting lists (up to 3 years) for BC housing units.
SFU gerontology researcher Gloria Gutman highlights the plight of unattached older women, who face the same housing and income struggles as single parent mothers. The importance of community building and services is echoed by Kathy McGrenera, SFU Instructor on "Aging Well in Community."
WESN's Kay's Place volunteers, Veronica and Darrell share their first hand experience helping seniors and providing compassion and support.
