Interwoven within this historical documentary of how fishing came to Long Beach Island is a chapter called "Sea Stories." And the fishermen I have met in the past 15 years of filming them all have a tale to tell. I have always asked about a compelling story while out at sea that is in the forefront of their memory bank.
One of the original longline fishermen of Barnegat Light was Capt. Skip Gallimore. In September 1981 coming back from the Grand Banks with the fish hole full of swordfish his boat was hit by a 'rogue wave.' He and mate Mike Carney describe this frightening episode out at sea.
