Coyotes are heading into their breeding season and it is especially important for folks out walking their dogs to keep their canine companions leashed or at least close at hand. February is a great month for seeing coyotes due to their increased daytime activity, but it is also a time to be extra careful with your dog. A dog, on leash, next to its human companion, is a much more formidable target to a coyote than a dog off-leash. The clip here is of a coyote calling, along with a couple of trail camera clips of different coyotes scavenging on road-killed deer. Coyote factoid: coyotes are omnivorous and will eat crab apples, Saskatoon berries and other fruits as well as the normal fare of small rodents, grouse and even young deer.
