Ward 49 in Chicago is the site of the United States' first effort at participatory budgeting. This process puts ward residents in charge of how to spend their ward's money. Residents research needs, create projects, present ideas to fellow residents, vote on their ideas, and then implement them! The process not only involves the community, it adds people power and effectiveness to the ward. And it all started at USSF 2007. USSF 2010 is this June - will you be there?
