Erna Sophia Bock
November 30, 1919 – January 13, 2015
Erna passed quietly in her Cottonwoods home, on January 13th, 2015, at the age of 95 years. Erna was born on November 30, 1919 at the end of WWI, in Germany, where she and her twin sister, Bartel, came into a family with two sisters, and a loving mother and father. Erna’s formative years were spent in Stuttgart, Germany, where she had good memories of the times when she and her sisters sang in four-part harmony, much to the delight of their father. As a young adult, Erna worked as a stenographer, and in her spare time she would enjoy parties and dancing. Erna’s first husband, an air force captain, Kurt, was killed in action. Erna met and married her second husband, Sig Bock and around 1950, Erna & Siggy moved to Canada and settled in Regina, SK. Siggy found employment with Saskatchewan Power Corporation and they were delighted when they were able to purchase their first real home, where they planted a tree and planned a future. Many trees and seasons later, Erna & Siggy purchased an acreage and transformed it into their version of the Butchart Gardens. The next move was to Kelowna, BC, where Siggy decided to take an early retirement. Once again, Erna & Siggy transformed their Kelowna home into a garden paradise. Their retirement included annual trips to Mexico and summer visits from German relatives, including Erna’s dear twin sister, Bartel. Siggy passed away in 1984, and Erna filled her next years with trips to Hawaii, Germany and Mexico. Erna was happy to meet Eugene Krehbiel, with whom she spent wonderful times and attended church. At 90 years of age, Erna moved into assisted living. She enjoyed visits with Pastor Ed, Rosie, Ernie & Karen, and the Lord’s Prayer became very familiar to her. On the day she passed, Pastor David was able to read Psalm 23 and pray The Lord’s Prayer with Erna, and she was filled with peace. Erna’s Celebration of Life was at Grace, on Saturday, February 7th.
