K1N on Navassa Island was running a big pileup on 15meter CW at about 2030 gmt February 8, 2015, transmitting on 21006 and listening up between 21008 and 21030. According to Club Log, the K1N operator was K9CT. I had been monitoring for about 30 minutes using a K3 with subreceiver and P3 panadapter. After being able to spot a few stations as he worked them, it was simple to determine his tuning pattern and it became easier to follow his listening frequency. He would slowly tune up the band .... then slowly tune down ... then slowly back up again, etc.. He never worked more than one station on any frequency before continuing on. The video begins soon after he had begun tuning another upward swing. I was able to spot the majority of stations that he worked using the subreceiver and panadapter. I had not attempted to call him, (actually it's almost more fun to monitor with these fun gadgets than it is to work them) but when he started getting louder, and since I had his tuning pattern pretty much nailed, I decided to fire up the Alpha 9500 and give him a try. After the three minute amp warmup it took just a few calls to work him .... and that was predictable because by that time I was confident that I knew where he would be tuning and listening for each QSO. Stations worked: W9DEA, XE1TT, AA4FF, KV4DX ,KC6JAM, N4KG, AA5AU ,K9WDY, N5GH ,N7SB, WS6X, K9ARZ, N4KAE ,K4JYS ,W7YM, K8KS, AF4HX, N4QWZ, K0?AG, KV4T, and finally N5LZ ….
