In her keynote presentation at CMA’s 2015 National Conference, Jane Chu shares research on the shifting nature of arts participation in the US, stressing the importance of communicating the relevancy—cultural, social, and economic—of the arts to our communities.
Jane Chu, who was appointed chair of the National Endowment for the Arts in 2014, was most recently president and CEO of Kansas City, Missouri’s Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts—the home of that city’s ballet, symphony orchestra and lyric opera. She has also served as a fund executive at the Kauffman Fund for Kansas City, vice president of external relations for Union Station Kansas City, and vice president of community investment for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Chu holds bachelor’s degrees in piano performance and music education from Ouachita Baptist University, master’s degrees in music and piano pedagogy from Southern Methodist University, a master’s in business administration from Rockhurst University, and a PhD in philanthropic studies from Indiana University.
