On Tuesday, March 24, the Supreme Court heard arguments in Noem v. Al Otro Lado, a case, filed on behalf of courageous asylum seekers and humanitarian aid and legal service provider Al Otro Lado, which focuses on the legality of a border policy blocking access to the U.S. asylum process. Advocates argue the turnback policy, under which immigration officers physically blocked people seeking safety at official border crossings from setting foot onto U.S. soil, flouts federal immigration law.
Prior to arguments, the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice and a coalition of interfaith leaders and immigrant rights advocates will hold an interfaith vigil and rally in support of asylum rights in front of the Court.
