Off the Record: Julia

Off the Record: Julia

Defender

In ‘Off the Record: Julia’ we meet Julia Arroyo – a woman committed to shaping the world her 13 year old daughter is entering into a better place than the world she inhabited at 13.

Julia is a gifted Aztec dancer, a devoted counselor and advocate, and is deeply committed to her personal and spiritual evolution.

She uses her lived experience to help lift other young women out of the street economy and reach their full potential.

DEFENDER: Off the Record – our new series from The Adachi Project – challenges the notion that the 'official record' tells the whole story. Each film introduces our subjects as full people, whose lives transcend their experience with the justice system, and who each have found a form of expression and liberation through an art-making or cultural practice.

Visit wearedefender.com/offtherecord-julia – where you can take a deeper dive into Julia’s story by reading the essay that SF Public Defender’s policy director, Carolyn Goosen, wrote to accompany the film.
