Music from the nightless summers and endlessly dark winters
A spontaneous, acoustic music show performed in a commuter train broke the solid Finnish silence and
made people smile. On that summer day, in 2013, UUMA was formed and is now ready to share their beautiful
music with a wider audience.
The Finnish name of the band translates both to a waist of a woman and the curvy body of a guitar. The music

The Helsinki-based band gets their inspiration from the Scandinavian background and mixes it with modern
international tones. The band members are ambitious musicians and also close friends. The bright vocals of
Sini Hyytiäinen glide over the acoustic guitar background of Erkko Aarti and Teemu Kilkki. The percussions
of Joonas Ala-Karvia and Eki Vikman add a layer of groovy beats as the solid base for the music.
Some of the songs are composed during the nightless nights of Finnish summer while sitting on a wooden
pier pointing towards the horizon at the rocky lake shore. As a contrast, some of them have found their form
during the darkest hours of endless winters. One can hear these moods balancing with each other throughout
the songs. In addition to the Scandinavian soundscapes, the lyrics are written in Helsinki and in places like
Madrid and Morocco.
The studio album recorded at Inka Studios in Orimattila, Finland and produced by Teemu Kilkki will be released during spring 2015 with cover graphics by artist Jonna Halli. UUMA is collaborating with filmmaker
Heikki Slåen and Miika Ullakko in the music video for the debut single ”Let Nobody Know”. After focusing
on the recording and composing process, UUMA will go live starting from Helsinki and continuing wherever
