The inspiration for (and the design and decoration of) Matt Bannister's bus sculpture 'Surrey Street Market'; commissioned by Transport For London & Wild in Art as part of the celebrations for 2014 - the Year of The Bus.
This bus design is inspired by the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Surrey Street Market, Croydon. Each element of the design represents a different characteristic, e.g the striped roof - its covered stalls. The colourful images of fruit and vegetables move from the traditional at the back through to the international at the front. Inside, different passengers talk on phones, pointing and smiling - some may even be ghosts from the past.
