Liverpool sculptor, Tom Murphy, was selected in 2011 to develop a suitable sculpture to depict the story of Trooper Potts VC and Trooper Andrews in Gallipoli in August 1915.
In this film, which was taken in January 2015 when most of the sculpture was complete but refinement work was still to be undertaken, Tom explains about his influences, the story that has shaped his approach to this commission. You can also see him working on the sculpture, just over life size and in clay, in his studio.
The sculpture was cast in bronze between April & September 2015 by the Morris Singer Foundry, Lasham - Hampshire. In the past the company has cast the Lions in Trafalgar Square and Eros in London. This is the subject of a separate film.
The memorial was unveiled in central Reading on 4th October 2015.
This film has been used to support our educational work about the art of sculpture.
Our thanks to Third Lens Films for doing such a great job on the film for us.
