Hatching of a young bearded vulture

Hatching of a young bearded vulture

Vulture Conservation Foundation

The hatching process can take several hours, specially for chicks with hatching problems. In this cases the adult birds remove the egg pieces by piece very slowly, alternating with long rest periods. This gives the chick time to recover and reabsorb completely the yolk sack. During this rest periods the adults displays postural changes lifting its breast, and covering the chick only with its feathers.
