"They lived in darkness. Then came the light and now they continue to send the spark out to find other dark worlds."
This is a little Cinema 4D project I realized over the course of a few days (five in total maybe, including render times on a laptop that wasn’t mine). This is my first animation created with Maxon’s Cinema 4D software. The short has no sound/music yet, not because I wouldn’t know how to, but because I couldn’t find something suitable. Maybe I have to mix up something myself.
The entire editing was done with Adobe’s Premiere Pro, though no effects were added other than transitions and titles. “Keep it simple, stupid” (or k.i.s.s.), a rule I find not only applies to Public Relations.
While modeling the plastic objects, such as the little guys with the big heads I lovingly call Dudes (who also feature in other test renders I make), I wanted to give the houses a raw papery look, and the polygonish looking trees in particular remind me of my old playmobil toys.
The biggest challenge however, was to imitate Global Illumination in such a way, that it would not increase render times (rendering had to be finished in less than 3 days and I spent a long night tweaking and re-rendering the final sections). I love the result and though the film is very short and a bit abstract, I think the emotional aspect works quite nicely.
