Critic and theorist Diedrich Diederichsen tells me what he thought of the China Contemporary Art Forum 2010, which only concluded minutes before this was shot, and the place of Chinese contemporary art more generally. The conference was held at the Wall Art Museum in Beijing. It was organized by Qigu Jiang and James Elkins of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Dr. Lao Zhu of the Centre for Visual Studies, Peking University.
We're on the bus, going to an exhibition opening and the final conference dinner. Diedrich spoke at the conference on judgment in criticism, going between his fields of music and art. He splits time between Berlin, where he lives, and Vienna, where he teaches.
The other visiting scholars/critics were Peter Fitzgerald, Peter Plagens, Astrid Wege, Richard Meyer, and Paul Gladston.
