I am inspired by alternative ways of growing food, and I am especially interested in the aquaponic systems. Aquaponics systems do not waste water, as it recirculates and reuses water very effectively. It only uses approximately 2% of the water that a conventionally irrigated farm requires for the same vegetable production. This allows for aquaponic production of both crops and fish in areas where water or fertile land is scarce.
In this film we see Els, who works at an experimental aquaponics farm in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She
hopes that food can be grown locally in the city in a very environmental friendly way. With this film I want to make people aware of aquaponics as a sustainable farming method, and explain in a short way what it is about.
