Trude describes her experiences in England as a newly arrived 9-year-old refugee. She felt like "a little ping-pong ball being moved from one place to another" and pays tribute to the generosity of the foster families and boarding schools she stayed with. Trude was evacuated on the outbreak of war and spent much of the war years in Cornwall, either in school or contributing to war work.
