Three-Screens experimental fiction about a french exchange student discovering the United States territory.
Entertainment Capital of the World is the result of my experience as an exchange student in the US two years ago. It was my first visit to the States whose territory I had conceived until that moment only through the films and images describing it. American cinema and television are known prevailing systems of representation and their ever spreading pictures must have brought my mind to naturally associate the American environment with fiction.
Therefore, approaching the American landscape physically was a significant experience. It was a journey into familiar images, when the duplicate of American reality, wholly made up in Hollywood, and the substance of this reality came to be blended.
Entertainment Capital of the World is an attempt at scrupulously recreating my memories of the occasion. Yet, those memories are brought back to life using a contradictory form : the remake.
This recreation, though artificial, enables me to manipulate reality. Shot on studio sets in Paris, every aspect was recreated as faithfully as possible : the first floor of the house was identically recreated based on the real one, the members of the family were embodied by American with similar personalities, conversations and events were reenactments of real memories.
Entertainment Capital of the World is presented as a three-screen video installation.
