Over two (& a bit) days this two-sided mandala mural grew in the Chinese Scholar's Garden for the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival.
Tape Artists Erica Duthie & Struan Ashby added small mandalas to create larger ones, while also drawing in festival punters to become the mandala artists. In the inner garden, people then embodied the mandalas, inspired by the ripples on the lake.
Christine White simultaneously performed improvised aural compositions, often inviting festival folks to sing, then adding layers of sound to their performances. For example, a chap from Saudi Arabia recited a poem about missing his mother, over which Chris sang an ode to her mother.
Thanks to many people, including the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, Creative Waikato, Hamilton City Council, Hamilton Gardens, and the NZ Chinese Friendship Society.
