Forwards Forwards by Wrong Solo for TELE VISIONS curated by Emma Ramsay and Alex White for Performance Space, Sydney (2013)
Wrong Solo is an unfixed collaboration between the cross-disciplinary artists Brian Fuata, Agatha Gothe-Snape and Shane Haseman (with occasional contributions from Sarah Rodigari, Lizzie Thomson, and Susan Gibb), that explores the schism between the premeditated and the improvised. WrongSolo employs a process open to poetic devices, spontaneity and rhythm, and to an engagement with everyday gestures, chance, repetition, and the absurd. Wrong Solo cuts across visual and performative fields. It exists at the crossroad of what is experienced and what is represented, what is done and what is imaged.
WrongSolo makes performance and installation based works in response to specific invitations and situations, engaging accordingly in site specific works and forms of institutional observation and critique. This critique facilities diverse narratives; some of which are historical, others political, and others personal. Our practice gives shape to a flexible constellation of formal and conceptual fragments. These fragments range through issues of desire and amorous ruminations; the excavation of particular art and performance histories through strategies of appropriation; the collision of historical and contemporary cultural phenomena engendered by new technologies; and the complicity of the viewer in the construction of the art work.
Our work draws on a shared history of artistic and performance training, an interest in text and its articulation in performance, and the various framing mechanisms and conventions upon which we rely to understand what is being performed.
