Design in Motion, a collaboration with the Travelling Gallery, is part of our pre-opening programme. The designers featured all use digital technologies to push the boundaries of their discipline, enabling them to experiment, play and innovate. The exhibition demonstrates how design can be put to work to reconstruct our heritage, visualise the unseen, and create products not previously possible.
Sophia George: Games in Motion
George was appointed as the first ever V&A Game Designer in Residence. In her early twenties, she is already an accomplished game designer, winning the 2012 BAFTA Ones to Watch Award for the prototype of Tick Tock Toys, a family-friendly puzzle game for iPhone and iPad. During her residency at the V&A, George took inspiration from furnishing fabric in the British Galleries by the leading Arts and Crafts designer William Morris. The resulting Strawberry Thief game provides a more creative experience than many traditional games
on the market. The game is free and available from the App Store to download to iPad.
Design in Motion was developed in partnership with the Travelling Gallery and generously supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, The Mathew Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund, Creative Scotland, The Scottish Government, and City of Edinburgh Council.
