Here's the slideshow I created for Raincoast Education Society's inaugural Capturing the Coast photo event. Submissions had to include photos captured on the west coast of Vancouver Island and were meant to "inspire people to explore, adventure and respect the region, and highlight the importance of stewardship and conservation."
My slideshow is a tour through some of my favorite places on the coast. It begins with sunrise near Sooke and then heads up the coast to Jordan River, Sombrio, Mystic Beach, and the Refugee Tree. After that we fly to the Port Renfrew region to see some wildlife and some of Canada’s largest trees; the San Juan Spruce, Avatar Grove, and Big Lonely Doug. From there we hike along the West Coast Trail before hopping inland to visit the incredible forests of the Carmanah/Walbran Valley’s. The Cheewhat Giant, Canada’s largest tree, makes an appearance as well as a giant cedar stump as a reminder of the threats our ancient forests still face. The next stops are Meares Island, Clayoquot Sound, and beautiful Flores Island. It ends with sunset on Long Beach near Tofino. Hope you enjoy!
