Acamar by cellist/composer Frances-Marie Uitti and composer Yota Morimoto is a followup to their collaborative DVD 13AL. The piece is one of a series of works made by the authors for the 192 loudspeakers in Leiden provided by The Game of Life Foundation. This work explores various musical languages developed through extensive research programming cellular automata in conjunction with triggering the 192 speakers to react in predetermined ways. Use of F.M. Uitti's rare aluminum cello from the 20's incorporates the rigorous exploration of metallic sound sources as a subtheme. Acamar is a star at 'the end of the river,' 120 light-years away from the earth.
