A video projection, sculpture & sound installation piece for the third grade Sculpture Exhibiiton at Rissei, Kyoto, Japan.
Based on a room inhabited by a sufferer of the hikikomori phenomenum in Japan, this piece explored the utopic worlds found and created in our hyper mediated age and the debris left behind. Using the screen structure as an anchored sculptural support, I created a multilayered surface compiled of both physical objects and projected images. The projection distorts as it overlaps, reflects and falls onto the various forms; creating a sense of ambiguity between the different dimensions. The disjointed film fragments, shot in various artificial environments such as aquariums and the streets of Dotonbori in Osaka, are an illusive visual display; a reminder that reality is heavily produced.
