Well I bought a bud into my lab and produced this.

Not by any means perfect, but may give inspiration to someone to combine timelapse with bluescreen technology.

It would be interesting to see what others can come up with.

Camera Canon 500D
Flower Iris Pseudacorus 'Variegata'

I was asked in the comments section “How long does it take to shoot something like that?”. A good question that deserves an answer here in the main frame. So, to ...

The heavy stuff:

The camera was running under remote control taking 1 image every 10 seconds.
Video was rendered at 24fps, so every second of video took 240 seconds of camera time.

The shooting time for 18 seconds of video at 10 second intervals is 1 hour and 12 minutes, that is the real time it took under these conditions for the flower to open to this stage.

In actual fact the shooting time was in excess of 3 hours because I had no way of knowing exactly when to start shooting in order to catch the start of the flowering activity, I had to just start the sequence and let nature take her course.
