My cheapo "Ocean Trawler", which is more of a motor launch, really.
I converted it to proper R/C with the guts from two old servos used as speed controllers for the twin tiny motors. There's no rudder.
Full throttle is just faster than the average cruising speed of a mallard.
I used a dead brushed speed controller as a BEC so I could use lipos, but it's just running on 4 AA NiMH cells. The BEC is dropping about a volt so it would run a bit faster if I took that out again. I figured if I put four new alkaline cells in, it might be too much voltage for the servo boards, so I've left it in for now.
The battery box was for 6 AAs, but I rewired it for 4 and used the rest of the space for the receiver. I cut a hole there and taped the receiver underneath with the leads and crystal socket exposed, so there was enough room.
