PechaKucha Night Hamptons, Vol. 11
Philippe Cheng is a fine artist based in Bridgehampton, New York. Born and raised in New York, he was educated at The School of Visual Art and New York University. He is currently completing work on three book projects. A landscape book is entitled, Still, The East End Photographs, a second about the complexities of inner city children growing up in Coney Island and a third entitled Requiems, a collection of images about how Americans deal with issues of death and dying, created in collaboration with artist Bastienne Schmidt.
He is also directing his first feature documentary entitled, On the Cusp, which was shot during the historic election of 2008. Illuminated by the words and images of 175 women, and filmed on the East End of Long Island, the film speaks against forced silence, while honoring chosen silence – creating an affirmation that every voice matters and is necessary for true democracy.
