Limerick Institute of Technology has been working with and mentoring local schools in satellite technologies ahead of the Regional Final of CANsat, an SFI Discover project sponsored by Arralis and run in conjunction with ESERO.
The final was contested by teams from Colaiste Iosef Kilmallock, Laurel Hill Secondary School and Colaiste Chiaran Croom, with the latter winning the competition.
The teams had to launch a satellite the size of a soft drink can, make two sets of recordings and present their findings to judges from Arralis and SFI discover.
Ian Foley of LIT said, "this was an excellent experience for all involved and we look forward to next year's competition already. LIT's philosophy of active learning comes to life through collaborations like this. We also appreciate the industrial involvement from Arralis and the local support of Vistakon".
