When I was researching for this project, I became inspired specifically by part of a 2011 interview with a Victoria's Secret model who claimed that by doing this specific diet and then not ingesting anything for 12 hours that your body just dries up and you can lose up to 8 lbs in 12 hours. For whatever reason, this quote really stuck with me and became my inspiration for what became this piece.
This piece offers a novel visual representation and aesthetic for looking at this commonplace idea of models having to starve themselves. With my composited visuals, I aim to bring out an uncanny, semi-abstracted perspective on this notion of "drying yourself out" and offering different corroded looks onto this marketed body.
I wanted to create a parallel with runway fashion shows and ad campaigns that VS does, not just with the visual body, but also with the audio. Therefore I created a booming soundtrack to start off with, which tapers down to allow for the spoken pieces to come into the forefront. The music I chose was actually used in a VS "Love Your Body" campaign, which was referenced briefly in some of the audio clips and is another aspect that I find ironic: how they're pushing to love your body, but behind the scenes it's quite contrary.
