Russell Page’s masterpiece "The Education of a Gardener" concludes with the fantasy of his ideal garden; he is fifty-six years old, he tells us, and has not had a garden of his own since he was eighteen. Illustrator Rebecca Strickson responded to Page’s own drawings and the colour palette of the painter, Kokoschka, with whom the designer studied, to visualise the dream, with Page’s words spoken by Roy Marsden.
