Formed in 1927, Somerset Woods Trustees is a land conservation organization serving Somerset County in rural, central Maine. Its mission is to preserve and protect lands within the county for the benefit of the public. Preserving property along the Kennebec River, a major tributary running 170 miles from Moosehead Lake to the Gulf of Maine, is a main focus for the organization.
The organization is run by a board of twelve volunteer members and one part time Executive Director. Due to their efforts, large tracts of land in this region have been set aside for public enjoyment, sustainable forestry and the protection of wildlife habitat.
