Regular people of Vancouver attempt to clean up the beach after a toxic fuel spill.
The accident occurred April 8, 2015 from a nearby ship docked in English Bay. The ship is identified as the Marathassa, a bulk-grain carrier, releasing at minimum 2800 L of Bunker fuel.
Jumping immediately to action after receiving the news; mothers, activists and off-duty engineers went to English Bay beach and worked till sunset at scrubbing rocks with sink detergent.
They put their health at risk, some unknowingly, because they saw no professional clean-up crew present, more than 24 hours after the spill.
We interviewed these volunteers to understand what they were seeing in English Bay.
Filmed on April 9, 2015.
