For the tv series, Hawaii 5-O, Fusion simmed and rendered an ocean surface & satellite impact splash for our good friends at Encore, Hollywood. The schedule was short, as tv scheds are, so Fusion applied a blend of our pre-existing ocean surface technology (ever evolving since our first great success on The Guardian) and new features in RealFlow like the grid solver. We focused on internal development of a new ocean surface pipeline. In this wip render, we create realistic ocean wave field with displacement of the grid solver, and have a dynamic falloff of displacement on the splashing water along with a ramped subsurface scatter shader to transition from clear water to whitewater in the splash. We also developed a new version of our spray generation that is more realistic, has more organic variation, and generates from grid solver elements rather than SPH elements. Once we get a few more passes of spray to work with the core water, this will be an incredible shot!
