When is the best time to take a swim in the canals? Which route is the healthiest to take to work? And what’s the real level of noise pollution in your neighbourhood? These are all examples of questions that could be answered in a Smart Citizens Lab.
With smartphones, smart watches, and wristbands, it’s becoming increasingly simple to collect the data around us. This is why Waag Society and partners have established the Amsterdam Smart Citizens Lab. It empowers citizens to crowd source and share data about their environment, with the broad aim to enhance the quality of their lives. Therefore, we embrace the notion of the Smart Citizens, who use open technology as a means to build and share engagement, knowledge and trust. Apart from helping citizens to measure and share, the lab empowers citizens to interpret and visualize the data and most likely will come up with innovative solutions that can scale across Europe and possibly beyond.
