Projection has become a common-placed aspect of the modern world. From film to advertising, in classrooms and offices, at public spaces like amusement parks, and at private spaces like weddings, glowing images of anything other than the blank screen they inhabit accompany all of our important events and rituals. But projection is a psychological concept as old as humanity’s prehistoric ancestors. Where once projection built solidarity, bolstering feelings of empathy among those of our own species so that we might as evolve from our primitive beginnings, projection remains a mysterious facet of the modern human psyche. And Cycles asks us to questions the manner by which we envision the past as a “simpler time.” Do the cycles of evolution bring revolution and revelation, or are they one in the same?
