Film photography has been under pressure globally due to the transition by consumers and professionals to digital photography. Kodak, Fuji and others have scaled back production production of film, while raising prices. Getting film developed is getting more and more difficult, especially in Calgary. As of December of 2014, the last labs taking 120 format film ceased their services. Even London Drugs, which used to ship film to Vancouver for their customers, has stopped taking 120 film. There are no large-scale commercial options for those seeking traditional black and white film development. E-6 processing is available periodically, when enough rolls have been dropped off that it makes sense to turn on the machine. Most film shooters in Calgary have resorted to processing film themselves or shipping it out of the city. With the situation being what it is, I wanted to know: Who still shoots film? Why do they do it? And will it continue?
