Margaret Garrett grew up in Pennsylvania and left home at the age of 16 to join the PA Ballet in Philadelphia. In her 20’s, wanting to explore beyond the world of dance, she turned to painting, finding something spiritually akin to dance in the movement of line and color. In January 2014, Margaret had her first solo show in NYC at Birnam Wood Galleries in Chelsea. An ART News review of this show said that, "Garrett paints with a grace that captures the elusive fleeting quality of movement... A lyrical calligraphic quality defined everything in this show with the patterns of the mark making defining the artist's personal poetic language.” In addition to Birnam Wood Galleries, Margaret’s work has been exhibited at Danesé, the Armory Show, Art Miami, the Heckscher Museum and Guild Hall, where her painting Tuning Fields 300 is currently being shown in their new acquisitions show.
Margaret lives and works on Shelter Island with her husband, the composer Bruce Wolosoff, and their two daughters, Juliet and Katya.
