Grace Lovett left the Easter Special with a second place trophy but her greatest battle was already won before she stepped on the field. In August 2014, Grace went to a heart screening at Desoto High School athletic testing solutions and they found a half dollar size hole in her heart. In October 2014, at the age of 13, she underwent open heart surgery. Her coach, who is also her father, and her teammates were by her side throughout the recovery process and while she regained her strength to play softball again. Six months after the surgery, Grace returned stronger than ever. In her first tournament back, she hit a home run and helped her team to the championship game. Her strength and resilience are truly inspiring.
