"As a person growing up in contemporary and ever-changing city-state such as Singapore, Speak Cryptic finds himself amidst a sea of foreign and imported idealogies. Like many of his generation, he has lost the ability to speak and understand his mother tongue, and is out of touch with traditional culture. In it's place, he dons multiple masks, crafted with features from fashionable foreign values that came through popular music and films, picking and choosing at freewill. Through this, he constructs an imagined and idealized identity only to be faced later with conflict of histories and personal origin. In an effort to join the global conversation and be relevant, Speak cryptic represents a homogenized, contemporary tribe. It is today common to find many others like him who have become children and perceived victims of the global economic evolution."
