Heinz describes leaving Germany for England in February 1939. He flew to London, registered with the Jewish Refugees Committee, then travelled to Leeds where his first action on arriving at the station was to take a tram to Elland Road to watch Leeds United draw 1-1 with Everton. He then began work in the Leeds clothing industry.
