How do you inspect something you can’t see? This video uses music and animation to demonstrate the process. Our inspector and operator also show how to ask the right detailed questions and follow up appropriately, depending on the answers they get. Critical areas to question are: maintaining adequate pressure, ensuring system-wide disinfection, planning and implementation of construction and new additions, construction standards, valve exercising and flushing programs and leak detection.
Created for the U.S. EPA Office of Water by the National Environmental, Safety and Health Training Association, the "Before You Begin..." series of videos are intended for training and refreshing the knowledge of state drinking water sanitary survey inspectors, just prior to an inspection. The videos in the series often also are used in public community sessions and councils to inform the public about the responsibilities and difficulties faced by local officials in maintaining their public water facilities, particularly small systems.
